Cebu bags 2 awards for Sports tourism

CEBU CITY

The recently concluded 3rd Philippine Sports Tourism Awards held in Resorts World Manila last November 26, 2019 feted two awardees from Cebu City: Marco Polo Cebu Plaza as Hotel of the Year, and The Philippine National Games in Cebu City as the domestic event of the year for 2018.

Organized by Selrahco PR and Primetime Plan Bravo, the Philippine Sports Tourism Awards, now in its 3rd year, sought to recognize and celebrate the movers and shakers of sports as a major pillar of Philippine tourism. Different institutions which were awarded the prestigious PSTA trophies varied from governments, private companies, venues, conventions, and more. A total of 14 awards were presented in the Grand Bar & Lounge of Resorts World Manila, Pasay City. 

Zeroing in on the various sports-centric partnerships of Marco Polo Cebu Plaza in 2018 including Run for ERUF, the Cebu Dragons Rugby Team Tournament, and the 2018 Spartan Race Philippines. These events gathered more than 3,000 participants—further promoting the merits of sports to athletes and casual fitness enthusiasts alike. 

On the other hand, The Philippine National Games in 2018 bagged the Domestic Event of the Year award for highlighting various sports in the week-long event. A total of 19 sports were contested from athletics to weightlifting. Organized by the Philippine Sports Commission with full support from the Cebu Sports Commission, the event gathered 92 local government units to mobilize and ensure the success of the games.

It can be remembered that the province of Cebu, together with Sunrise Events Inc. was awarded the International Event of the Year 2015-2016 for the efforts of the 70.3 Ironman Asia Pacific Championship in last year’s Philippine Sports Tourism Awards.
